Tim Kruse

Hi, I’m Tim.

Software developer from Oyten. I build small software for problems I have myself, and write down why it turned out the way it did.

All tumbled down.

The robbers are gone, the animals sorted. Each tag leads to its project.

Projects, stacked as a tower of animals

  1. Owl with glasses, reading manga:

My library’s built-in reader never remembered that manga run right to left. Mine remembers it per series, and on the phone a tap jumps from panel to panel, found by an AI model.

Manga reader for tablet and phone

    16,366 pages for 50 cents

Kotlin, Compose, TypeScript, SQLite, React, PWA, Python

  2. Wild boar wearing a napkin:

In our group everyone rates blind, and the reveal is for all of us at once. The restaurants sit on a map, with photos and marks for every visit, and a planner is how we settle the next evening.

    Rate restaurants, plan the evenings

    3 people, 1 evening a month

    TypeScript, Fastify, SQLite, MapLibre, Protomaps

  3. Tortoise whose shell is a building brick:

Tap the phone on a brick from the 3D printer and the apps I picked are blocked. There is no emergency exit: to end it I have to get up and tap again at the desk.

An NFC brick that locks the phone

    1 tap to lock

    Kotlin, Compose, Room, OpenSCAD

  4. Dog with a leaflet in its mouth:

The six-pack of oat drink for €10 is cheaper per litre than the single litre at €1.79, and the radar says so right next to the price. It collects the leaflets for my area and pings my phone as soon as something I’m waiting for turns up.

Search leaflets, alerts to your phone

    1 run a night

    Python, FastAPI, SQLite, PWA

  5. Chameleon with a beret and a brush:

Two AI providers, two archives, and an image I had made on one device was nowhere to be found on the other. My own interface in front of both keeps every image with its prompt and its cost.

    Images from FLUX and GPT

    since 2022

    TypeScript, Express, Vitest, Docker

  6. Dormouse in a hard hat, asleep:

The grandparents open a door in the morning and see a photo, without signing in anywhere. The Advent calendar is put together beforehand, day by day, from your own photos, and paid for only once it is finished.

    Advent calendars to give away

    24 doors

TypeScript, Astro, React, Drizzle, Stripe, Ansible

    Being rebuilt

  7. Gull with a bread roll in its beak:

The next train to leave: get on, ride to the end of the line and see where you come out. The app pins tasks like that to a board, and instead of points the fog lifts on a hand-drawn island.

    Side quests for real life

    1 island from 1 number

    Kotlin, Compose, libGDX

    In progress

  8. Cat with six different coats:

The same site as a tree slice or as a rally of cardboard signs, and not a line of JavaScript for it. The “Design” button at the bottom switches between them.

    Six designs, the same content

    no script

    Astro, TypeScript, nginx

Has carried everything on top since 2011.

In my day job I have been building larger systems for clients since 2011, mostly with Java and Spring. → Work

All projects

Loosely after the Brothers Grimm’s Town Musicians of Bremen.

Makes a racket. Then the eight projects here lie neatly side by side. The robbers are gone. The donkey is still standing.

Stöberby now has its own page: an island in the fog that clears as you scroll. You can sign up there for the app’s test round. Join the test round

  • built

The relaunch is live: six designs drawn from the same content, switched with the button in the bottom right, and not a single script in the browser.

With the app still unbuilt, a year ran through on fast-forward, and after six months the map stood still. Now every island is a chapter, and a boat takes you on to the next one.
